The plainest but vivid colors are found in the traditional clothing of Ilkal. Ilkal is a small town located in the southeast of the Bagalkot district of Karnataka. It is very hot in summer and pleasant in winter. Ilkal was an ancient textile center famous for its famous handloom saris. The main source of income is "red granite", which is exported around the world, and ilkal sari is a secondary source of income for those who have lived there for generations. The availability of local raw materials helped this fern grow.
The sari is made from a mixture of cotton and silk or pure silk. A distinctive feature of the sari is that the base of the palu is connected with the base of the body, which the locals call TOPE TENI. This technique is only used in Ilkal. The warp threads of the body, rim, and pallu are prepared separately.
