Sujani Embroidery of Rajasthan

Currently, Sujini embroidery is mainly made in about 15 villages except Bhusura village in Ghaighatti block in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, and in some pockets of Madhubani. Bhusura, the village where Sujuni was developed, is within 100 km of the center of the Mithila painting. Rural women in the Muzaffarpur district of northern Bihar continue to finely sew and embroider the Sujini tradition. The resurrection of crafts is often characterized by perceived aesthetics and nostalgia for lost skills.

Process of Sujani Embroidery

The most important requirement is to use ready-to-use raw materials as the base fabric. The process begins by tracing the design to the base fabric using the tracing wheel and trace sheet. After that, the craftsman begins to draw the background with fine running stitches. And finally, use black or brown threads to outline the motif.
