Material
Intricately crafted black earrings handmade using whole rice seeds (paddy) & wooden beads by Putul Das Mitra. She has been weaving delicate paddy jewellery since 2000. A national award winner, she along with other women practice making paddy jewellery which uses an excellent balance between professional finesse and traditional natural wealth. Paddy, which is rice with husk, is first treated with Araldite gum. After that, the grains are beautifully sewn in symmetric patterns. A melange of artificial beads, studs, nylon threads, acrylic colours, and other décor is used to weave lightweight earrings, necklaces, tops, and other items. Locally known as ‘Dhaan’ crafts, the process is complex and requires delicate handiwork.

For those of you using a 44-inch wide fabric, this guide suggests measurements for a standard L Size. Think of this as your starting point. If you're working with different sizes or fabric widths, just adjust up or down accordingly. Hope this helps!
When it comes to how much fabric you'll need, it really depends on the design. We'd recommend having a chat with your designer or tailor before you order, just to be on the safe side.

What material is used in Paddy Craft products?
Paddy Craft uses dried rice stalks and husks to create decorative items, figurines, and wall art. Artisans in Odisha and Bengal shape, dye, and assemble paddy stalks into intricate creations.
Is this eco-friendly?
Artisans collect paddy stalks after harvest, dry them, sort by size, and assemble them into figurines and decorative forms using thread and adhesive. Some stalks are dyed for color. The work requires patience and fine hand skills.
Will it hold up to daily use?
Natural fibre products are surprisingly sturdy for regular household use. Avoid heavy loads and prolonged moisture. With basic care, they last for years and develop a nice patina.
How do I clean Paddy Craft products?
Wipe with a dry cloth. For stubborn dust, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Never soak in water. prolonged moisture weakens natural fibres and can cause mold.
Will the color or texture change over time?
Natural fibres deepen in tone with age. Some lighten with sun exposure. This aging is normal and gives the product character. Store away from direct sun to slow the process.
