This Rakhi is not mass-produced. It is a tiny piece of shadow-puppet art, hand-painted on leather, that you tie on your brother's wrist. This is iTokri's leather puppetry reusable Rakhi collection for Raksha Bandhan 2026, built around one craft, Tholu Bommalata from Andhra Pradesh, and one thing that makes it special: nearly every part of it gets a second life after the festival.
Tholu Bommalata means "the dance of leather puppets." It is Andhra Pradesh's traditional leather shadow-puppet theatre, a centuries-old craft where translucent leather is cut and painted, then held up to a lamp so the coloured figures move across a screen. The same craft, shrunk down, becomes the round painted motif on this Rakhi: peacocks, flowers, and mythological figures, hand-painted on goat leather in natural colours, following techniques the region has practised for generations.
Each one is made by master artist V. Shankar from Nimmalakunta, a village in Andhra Pradesh known for Tholu Bommalata. He paints the leather by hand, so the colours and figures shift slightly from piece to piece. This is the whole point of buying it: you are getting one artist's brushwork on a real craft leather, not a mass print.

Here is what sets this one apart. After Raksha Bandhan, almost nothing goes to waste:
● The Rakhi Becomes a Magnet:
After the celebration, the centre leather motif charm can be easily detached from the thread and reused as a colorful fridge magnet.
● The Puppet Becomes a Keychain:
The traditional authentic Rajasthani puppet attached to the Potli is fully removable and designed to be reused as a vibrant keychain.
● That Potli Becomes a Pouch:
After celebrating and detaching the puppet, the Potli can be used as a pouch for storing your beautiful jhumkas and necklaces.
So one leather puppetry Rakhi from iTokri, leaves you with a magnet, a keychain, and a pouch, long after the thread comes off.
