Kala Raksha was started with the aim to collect artisans from different regions, preserve the traditional art form and making it a source of income for the artisans. The organization was founded by Prakash Bhanani in 1993 in Kutch. The organization consists of the artisans, community members, and experts in the fields of art, design, rural management and museum. They had started with the group of artisans from Sumrasar Sheikh, a village 25 km away from Bhuj. Now becoming a group of more than 1000 women artisans from seven ethnic communities practicing the traditional embroideries.
