Madhubani painting comes from the Mithila region of Bihar. Women paint bold mythological scenes, nature motifs, and geometric borders using five distinct styles: Bharni, Kachni, Tantrik, Godna, and Kohbar.

Artists use handmade bamboo brushes and natural pigments (turmeric, indigo, soot, flower extracts) to paint on handmade paper or cloth. Lines are drawn freehand. Empty space is filled with patterns. No surface is left blank.
