Material This traditional artwork of kalighat painting is done on handmade paper base, made using natural colours and permanent ink. Kalighat painting or Kalighat Pat originated in the 19th century in West Bengal, India, the paintings over a period of time developed as a distinct school of Indian painting. From the depiction of Hindu gods, god, and other mythological characters, the Kalighat paintings developed to reflect a variety of subjects, including many depictions of everyday life. Kalighat Paintings were first painted on the paper using the natural and homemade dyes. During its manifestation, in the earlier days, it was a community effort. The family members or the community members, would sit together and ground the ingredients to make the dyes, colors and some would draw the outlines of the main figures in the painting and while others would work on the backdrop. The distinct feature of these paintings are the big eyes of the main figures and the colors used are prominently the primary colors like yellow, blue, green, etc. This Bengal Art comes from Midnapore from the family of Laltu Chitrakar. A wonderful painting for the discerning decor aficionado and art lover or a gift for someone interested in storytelling tradition. These are priceless collectibles.

For those of you using a 44-inch wide fabric, this guide suggests measurements for a standard L Size. Think of this as your starting point. If you're working with different sizes or fabric widths, just adjust up or down accordingly. Hope this helps!

When it comes to how much fabric you'll need, it really depends on the design. We'd recommend having a chat with your designer or tailor before you order, just to be on the safe side.
