A pure Kalamkari saree is not just made, it is built with time and patience. A true Kalamkari saree is neither machine made nor hand block printed, it is purely painted by hands. After drying, these fabrics are soaked in Myrobalan solution to help the fabric enhance the colour and dye absorption.

Step 6 - Sketching

Step 7 - Preparation of kalams 

After sketching kalams are usually prepared by the artisans to outline the borders, patterns and motifs.

After drying, the fabrics are dipped and soaked into the natural colours.

Step 13 - Re-washing 

Fabrics are re-washed with clean and regular water.

Where blue colours are required, the fabrics are dipped into indigo separately.

Step 15 - Resistance application 

Certain parts are covered to protect them from further dyeing. 

Step 16 - Re dyeing
