Charkha is a vibrant and socially impactful brand dedicated to preserving the traditional weaving of Kinnaur while advancing gender equality and financial independence for women weavers. Established in 2016 and officially registered in 2020, Charkha stands as a beacon of cultural heritage and sustainable development. Their mission is to revitalize the rich handloom tradition of Kinnaur. 376 artisans are associated with this brand. Charkha was born out of a commitment to save Kinnaur’s traditional weaving practices from extinction and to empower local women. As the region’s traditional attire fell out of favor, Charkha emerged as a vital force in reconnecting the community with its heritage. They offer a range of exquisite handloom products, including shawls, stoles, mufflers, and tweed fabric made from pure merino and sheep wool. Each piece reflects centuries of Kinnauri craftsmanship, infused with contemporary relevance and quality. Since its inception, Charkha has made remarkable progress in its mission. Initially focused on local markets, Charkha has expanded its reach through corporate gifting, local and state trade fairs, and significant collaborations. Our stall at Dilli Haat, featuring live handloom demonstrations, and partnerships with fashion houses like Karu and Jade, has elevated our visibility. We’ve also leveraged online platforms such as Amounee, Gocoop, and India Handmade to broaden our market.
