Lucknowi Chikankari has been part of the culture for hundreds of years. That was wore by nawabs and slowly available by commoners, symbol of Awadhi Tehjib. Handicraft has always been the medium of thousands of Artisans livelihood who slowed in this fast fashion era. Due to a lack of a sustainable amount of work, artisans switch to domestic work or daily laborer jobs because they lack any other skill, also they do not want to teach their children that art due to a lack of scope of the work, undervalued labor, and underrecognized skill. To ensure the sustainability of artisans' livelihoods in Lucknow Safe Society Started working with the HCL Foundation to empower women economically and provide them a platform where they can feel secure in both term, social and economic stability. SHWET was founded in a country where women have the strongest temperament, willpower, and natural ability to nurture and the goal is to only grant them the gift of creative craftsmanship and blessing of being socioeconomically empowered in the society. Shwet is an idea that arose from our concerns for marginalized women in order to strengthen, empower, and mainstream them. A strong artisan community must be established to mitigate the challenge of an unorganized force of artisans.
