Based in the foothills of the Himalayas, Purkal Stree Shakti Samiti was founded in 2003 to empower disadvantaged village women through the crafts of beading, patchwork, hand embroidery, and quilting hand. After 17 years of existence, the organization has had a positive impact on the lives of more than 170 women from over 40 villages. Due to disruptions in operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of the more than 170 women were laid off in March. All designs are thoughtful, fun, playful, and quirky! They are inspired by nature, flowers, birds, the countryside, etc. Each of their craft has a story and a beautiful name.
