Some traditions carry a weight that machine-made plastic threads simply cannot replicate. Our Dokra Beads Handmade Rakhis connect Raksha Bandhan directly to India's ancient metalworking heritage. Each central bead in this collection is individually cast in non-ferrous brass by tribal artisans from Central and Eastern India using the 4,000-year-old lost-wax casting technique (Cire Perdue). Strung together with soft hand-twisted cotton dori, glass beads, and wooden accents, these rakhis offer a rustic, earth-toned elegance that feels substantial on your brother's wrist.
Dokra (or Dhokra) is one of the oldest known methods of metal casting in human history, tracing its lineage directly back to the iconic Dancing Girl of Mohenjo-daro.
Because the clay mold is broken to reveal the hardened brass bead inside, no two Dokra beads are ever identical. Every bead bears the subtle, organic hand-marks of the artisan who twisted the beeswax thread to form its original pattern.

When you choose a Dokra rakhi from iTokri, you directly support multi-generational artisan families in the tribal belts of Chhattisgarh (Bastar), Odisha, and West Bengal (Bikna). For these communities, metal casting is not a factory job - it is a sacred craft passed down through families.
Every order ships in 100% plastic-free packaging, complete with a handwritten note on recycled paper, a small handcrafted gift, and fresh roli-chawal tucked into miniature glass bottles.
Every Rakhi you see here is already made and waiting before you order it. iTokri keeps its own stock: we buy each Rakhi outright from artisans and ship what you choose to your brother. Since 2012 we have worked directly with the people who make this work, more than 10,000 artisan partners across 500 craft clusters.
You can add a gift card, or a gift for brother with the same order.
You can also explore more handmade Rakhis on iTokri like Patwa Rakhi, terracotta Rakhi, wooden engraving Rakhi, German silver Rakhi, and blue pottery Rakhi.
