These table coasters are woven from natural madur grass twisted cotton yarn and madur kathi reed (Cyperus tegetum and C. pangorei), which grow in the swampy regions around Midnapore in West Bengal. This grass variety is among the most widely used for madur weaving in the state. The craft is practised in small artisan homes and workshops often with family members working together. These coasters help protect surfaces from heat stains, and moisture while adding a simple, earthy touch to everyday dining.
