Tarkashi: Taar means wire. The technique of inlaying a fine flattened wire of brass (or silver or gold) in wood is called Tarkashi. The patterns are usually geometric, and these handcrafted boxes and decorations have adorned everyday objects in the culture of Rajasthan for centuries to express royalty. Mohan Lal Sharma learned this craft from his brother and Guru Shri Gopal Lal Sharma when he was 14. Since then, he has created a lot of work on rosewood timber (sheesham) and other mediums. Eventually, he started his own workshop and has trained many artisans since then. He was awarded by the Government of Rajasthan a "merit certificate" for 1985–86, a "state award" in 1986–87, a national award in 2013, and the "shilp guru award" in 2019.
