Red pochampally ikat pure handloom raw silk fabric from Telangana, woven by skilled master artisans Shankar Gajam Govardhan. Ikat fabrics originate from the small town of Pochampally in Telangana, a renowned handloom hub surrounded by lush green hills. Ikat is an ancient weaving technique in which patterns are created on yarn through the laborious process of resist-tying specific sections before dyeing. These carefully calculated tied yarns are then dyed to form intricate patterns. The dyed yarns may be used in the warp, weft, or both to create beautifully patterned and distinctive woven textiles. This thread by thread tie-dye technique, when arranged with mathematical precision, forms stunning motifs on the fabric. Suitable for garments and home decor.

How much fabric will I receive?

Both sets of yarns (warp and weft) are tied and dyed to predetermined patterns. When placed on the loom, the dyed threads intersect to form the design. The alignment requires extreme precision. A saree takes 5-10 days.
How can I tell if this is handloom and not powerloom?
Handloom fabric has a slightly uneven texture when you run your fingers along it. The selvedge edges look different from machine-woven ones. The weave carries a softness that powerlooms cannot replicate.
Why are there slight irregularities in the weave?
A human hand operates the loom. Thread tension, shuttle speed, and pedal pressure vary naturally. These small irregularities are proof of handloom origin. not defects.
How do I care for Pochampally Ikat handloom products?
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent for the first few washes. Avoid wringing. gently squeeze and dry flat in shade. The fabric softens beautifully with each wash.
What does Raw Silk feel like?
Raw silk has a nubby, slightly rough texture that sets it apart. It feels crisp and sturdy with visible slubs. The natural, unprocessed fibres give it an earthy character.
How do I wash Raw Silk products?
