| Material | Ajrakh saree is hand block printed by skilled artisans from Kutch using traditional resist block printing and natural dyeing techniques. This ancient craft is believed to be over 4,500 years old, with origins tracing back to sindh before evolving in Gujarat and Rajasthan. It is closely associated with the Maldhari community of Bhuj. The process involves multiple stages of printing and dyeing, with resting periods to ensure deep colour absorption. Crafted on kota doria cotton, an age-old textile from Rajasthan, the fabric features finely interwoven threads that create its signature check pattern. Its lightweight and sheer texture add a graceful elegance, enhanced by intricate geometric motifs, making it ideal for occasions and refined everyday wear. |

For those of you using a 44-inch wide fabric, this guide suggests measurements for a standard L Size. Think of this as your starting point. If you're working with different sizes or fabric widths, just adjust up or down accordingly. Hope this helps!
When it comes to how much fabric you'll need, it really depends on the design. We'd recommend having a chat with your designer or tailor before you order, just to be on the safe side.

Ajrakh is a resist-printing craft from Kutch, Gujarat. It uses indigo and madder root dyes in a 16-step process. The Khatri community has practiced it for over 400 years. It holds a GI tag.
The fabric goes through repeated rounds of resist application, dyeing, washing, and sun-drying. Artisans use carved teak blocks and a mud-lime resist paste. A single piece takes up to two weeks to complete.
Look for slight irregularities in the pattern. block prints are never perfectly symmetrical. The reverse side shows faint ink marks. These small imperfections confirm it's hand-stamped, not machine-made.
Each impression is placed by hand. Block pressure, ink amount, and fabric texture create natural variations. Two pieces from the same batch will look similar but never identical.
First wash in cold water with a pinch of salt to set the dye. Always hand wash or gentle machine cycle. Dry in shade. direct sun can shift natural dye colors over time.
Cotton feels soft, breathable, and familiar against skin. Handloom cotton has a slight irregularity you can feel with your fingertips . tiny slubs that machine-made fabric lacks.
Hand wash or gentle machine cycle in cold water. Use mild detergent. Cotton can shrink 3-5% in the first wash. that's normal. Air dry in shade for best color retention.
Cotton breathes well in hot weather and layers comfortably in winter. It's one of the most versatile fabrics across Indian seasons. Lighter weaves suit summer; denser ones work in cooler months.
Cotton is one of the most durable natural fabrics. It holds up well to regular washing and daily wear. Handloom cotton often outlasts its machine-made counterparts.
Handloom Cotton has a distinct texture. slightly uneven, with a softer hand-feel. It's woven on manual looms with natural yarn tension. Mill cotton is uniform but lacks that organic character.
