Srikakulam Jamdani weaving comes from Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh. Weavers create fine jamdani motifs on cotton and silk using supplementary weft technique. The tradition parallels Bengal's jamdani but uses local design vocabulary.
How long does it take to weave a Srikakulam Jamdani product?
Two weavers work together. one manages the base cloth while the other inserts pattern threads with small bamboo sticks. The technique produces woven-in motifs on a sheer base. Each saree takes a week or more.
How can I tell if this is handloom?
Handloom fabric has a slightly uneven texture when you run your fingers along it. The selvedge edges look different from machine-woven ones. The weave carries a softness that powerlooms cannot replicate.
Why are there slight irregularities in the weave?
A human hand operates the loom. Thread tension, shuttle speed, and pedal pressure vary naturally. These small irregularities are proof of handloom origin, not defects.

How durable is Cotton?
