Material
100% black handloom pure desi tussar silk fabric showcases the intricate srikalahasti style of Kalamkari pen work. Known for its gossamer texture and elegant feel, it is entirely handpainted using natural colors. The Srikalahasti style involves freehand drawing with a kalam (pen) and filling in rich hues a tradition practiced for over 200 years. Ideal for designing clothing, festive wear, or unique decor accents, this Kalamkari fabric carries a distinct natural odor. As it is hand-painted, slight color spread or irregularities in design are common and should not be considered as defects.
A Note on Handmade Beauty: Each piece is hand painted and using natural colors over a slow process of 30–35 days. As a result, you may notice slight variations in color, mild pigment smudges, or irregular dye patterns, these are not defects. They’re gentle marks of authenticity, proudly bearing the touch of human hands, heritage, and nature’s own palette. Wear them like a signature, because no two pieces are ever alike.
Care
Dry clean only.
Colour
Slight difference in colour from the visible product image is possible.

How long does shipping take?
Standard shipping takes 5–7 business days. Express options are available at checkout.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes! We ship to over 50 countries. International delivery typically takes 10–14 business days.
How much fabric will I receive?
The exact yardage is mentioned on each product page. Our blouse pieces come in standard cuts. typically 1 metre, 2.5 metres, or full bolts. Check before ordering.
Can I use this fabric for stitching garments?
Yes. Our blouse pieces work well for kurtas, blouses, dresses, and more. The product description notes the fabric weight and drape to help you decide the best garment type.
Will the fabric shrink after washing?
Handloom and handmade fabrics may shrink 3-5% after the first wash. We suggest buying slightly extra if stitching a fitted garment. Pre-wash in cold water to settle it.
Is the print/design on both sides of the fabric?
Block-printed and screen-printed fabrics show the design on one side. Woven and ikat fabrics often show the pattern on both sides. The product page mentions this.
Can I order a specific length?
Blouse pieces are pre-cut to the length mentioned on the product page. Custom lengths are not available for standard listings. For bulk or custom orders, contact our team.
What is Srikalahasti Kalamkari?
Srikalahasti Kalamkari is a hand-drawn textile art from Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh. Artists use a bamboo pen (kalam) dipped in natural dyes to draw mythological scenes directly on fabric. No blocks are used.
How is Srikalahasti Kalamkari done?
The artist holds a pointed bamboo kalam wrapped with wool (to hold dye) and draws freehand on fabric. Natural dyes from indigo, pomegranate, and iron are used. The fabric goes through multiple wash and mordant steps between colors.
How can I tell if my Srikalahasti Kalamkari product is genuine?
Look for slight irregularities in the pattern. Block prints are never perfectly symmetrical. The reverse side shows faint ink marks. These small imperfections confirm it's hand-stamped, not machine-made.
Why do Srikalahasti Kalamkari prints look slightly different from each other?
Each impression is placed by hand. Block pressure, ink amount, and fabric texture create natural variations. Two pieces from the same batch will look similar but never identical.
How should I wash Srikalahasti Kalamkari products?
First wash in cold water with a pinch of salt to set the dye. Always hand wash or use a gentle machine cycle. Dry in shade. Direct sun can shift natural dye colors over time.
What does Tussar feel like?
Tussar has a smooth, cool-to-touch surface with a natural sheen. It drapes elegantly and feels light against the skin. The texture becomes softer with gentle use over time.
How do I wash Tussar products?
Dry clean is safest for Tussar. If hand washing, use cold water and a mild silk-specific detergent. Never wring. Roll in a towel to absorb moisture, then dry flat in shade.
Is Tussar suitable for summer or winter?
Tussar works across seasons. It feels cool in summer and retains warmth in winter. The natural temperature regulation of silk makes it comfortable year-round in Indian climates.
How durable is Tussar?
With proper care, Tussar products last for years. The fibre is naturally strong. Avoid rough handling, direct sun, and chemical detergents. Gentle care keeps it looking fresh long-term.
Why is Tussar priced higher than cotton?
Silk production is labour-intensive. from rearing silkworms to reeling the thread. Tussar involves additional regional techniques that add time and skill. The price reflects the material and the maker's effort.
