Description & Material
Small mustard buttons, each covered in cloth, close the placket of this dark green kurta from the V neck to below the chest, the one unprinted note on a fully printed front. The print around them is dense: large rounded diamonds packed close, each holding a star-like flower in rust red and mustard, outlined in black, their edges soft where the blocks met the cloth.
Before an Ajrakh cloth is printed, its makers steep it in harda, the powdered fruit of the myrobalan tree, whose tannin helps the cotton take and keep its colour. Alum then goes down wherever red is wanted, and the madder bath raises colour only on those marks. This kurta is natural dyed, which is why the care below asks for a salt soak before its first wear.
On the mannequin it hangs straight to the knee, and its elbow-length sleeves end in a plain edge, as the hem does. Its cotton has a dull, soft surface with a little texture in the weave, and no light passes through it in these frames. Styled over mustard palazzos it reads as casual wear, and it serves as daily wear on any other day.

Slight irregularities in weave, print and colour are natural to handmade textiles. They are the record of the hand that made this piece, not flaws.
Fabric Care
Gentle hand wash separately in cold water with a mild liquid detergent. Natural colours may bleed a little in the first wash or two; soak once in cold salt water before the first wear, and do not soak for long after. Dry in shade, away from direct sun. Iron on the reverse, never across the work. Note: minor colour bleed in the first one or two washes is expected; the salt soak before the first wear settles it.

How do I pick the right size for kurtas?

Is this ready to wear or do I need to get it stitched?
Our kurtas are ready to wear unless the listing says 'unstitched.' Stitched pieces ship as-is. Unstitched pieces need a tailor. we include measurement guidance where needed.

Can I machine wash this?
We recommend hand washing for the first 2-3 washes. After that, gentle machine wash works for most cotton and blended kurtas. Silk and embroidered pieces need hand wash only.

What is Ajrakh printing?
Ajrakh is a resist-printing craft from Kutch, Gujarat. It uses indigo and madder root dyes in a 16-step process. The Khatri community has practiced it for over 400 years. It holds a GI tag.
How is Ajrakh printing done?
The fabric goes through repeated rounds of resist application, dyeing, washing, and sun-drying. Artisans use carved teak blocks and a mud-lime resist paste. A single piece takes up to two weeks to complete.
How can I tell if my Ajrakh product is genuinely block printed?
Look for slight irregularities in the pattern. block prints are never perfectly symmetrical. The reverse side shows faint ink marks. These small imperfections confirm it's hand-stamped, not machine-made.
Why do Ajrakh prints look slightly different from each other?
Each impression is placed by hand. Block pressure, ink amount, and fabric texture create natural variations. Two pieces from the same batch will look similar but never identical.
How should I wash Ajrakh printed products?
First wash in cold water. Always hand wash or gentle machine cycle. Dry in shade. direct sun can shift natural dye colors over time.
What does Cotton feel like?
Cotton feels soft, breathable, and familiar against skin. Handloom cotton has a slight irregularity you can feel with your fingertips . tiny slubs that machine-made fabric lacks.
How do I wash Cotton products?
Hand wash or gentle machine cycle in cold water. Use mild detergent. Cotton can shrink 3-5% in the first wash. that's normal. Air dry in shade for best color retention.
Is Cotton suitable for all seasons?

How durable is Cotton?
Cotton is one of the most durable natural fabrics. It holds up well to regular washing and daily wear. Handloom cotton often outlasts its machine-made counterparts.
What makes handloom Cotton different from mul cotton?
Handloom Cotton has a distinct texture. slightly uneven, with a softer hand-feel. It's woven on manual looms with natural yarn tension. Mill cotton is uniform but lacks that organic character.
