What is Bagru printing?

Bagru printing comes from Bagru village, 30 km from Jaipur. It's known for dabu (mud resist) printing that creates earthy, muted patterns. The Chhipa printers use a distinctive syahi-begar (black and red) technique.

How is Bagru printing done?

The printer applies a mud resist paste (dabu) made from clay, gum, and lime onto fabric. After drying, the fabric is dyed. Where the paste sits, the fabric stays undyed. This resist-dye cycle repeats for each color layer.

How can I tell if my Bagru product is genuinely block printed?

Look for slight irregularities in the pattern. block prints are never perfectly symmetrical. The reverse side shows faint ink marks. These small imperfections confirm it's hand-stamped, not machine-made.

Why do Bagru prints look slightly different from each other?

Each impression is placed by hand. Block pressure, ink amount, and fabric texture create natural variations. Two pieces from the same batch will look similar but never identical.

How should I wash Bagru printed products?

First wash in cold water with a pinch of salt to set the dye. Always hand wash or gentle machine cycle. Dry in shade. direct sun can shift natural dye colors over time.

Cotton feels soft, breathable, and familiar against skin. Handloom cotton has a slight irregularity you can feel with your fingertips . tiny slubs that machine-made fabric lacks.

Material	Grey bagru dabu hand block print fabric comes from the village of Bagru in Rajasthan, where artisans have practiced the Dabu mud-resist printing technique for over 400–450 years. Printed on cotton using natural dyes, the fabric is created by applying a hand-prepared mud resist with carved wooden blocks. After dyeing, the resist is washed away to reveal distinct patterns. Each piece reflects the skill, experience and careful craftsmanship of trained artisans. This fabric is ideal for garments, home decor and creative projects. A Note on Handmade Beauty Each piece is hand block printed and dyed using natural colors over a slow process of 15–20 days. As a result, you may notice slight variations in color, mild pigment smudges, or irregular dye patterns, these are not defects. They’re gentle marks of authenticity, proudly bearing the touch of human hands, heritage, and nature’s own palette. Wear them like a signature, because no two pieces are ever alike.
Care	Gentle hand wash separately in cold water with mild/liquid detergents, excess natural colours may bleed when washed for the first time. Avoid soaking for too long. Note: This fabric is not pre-washed. Minor color bleed may first 1–2 washes, It is recommended to soak in salt water before stitching.
