Sikki is a type of grass of golden colour which is grown in the wet and marshy area around rivers and ponds in Mithila region of North Bihar. Each sikki product starts with a base frame of Munj as per the design. Then the Sikki strands with a 6-inch long needle-shaped tool called Takua are woven around it. These grass products are lightweight, organic & biodegradable.

What material is used in Sikki Grass products?
Sikki Grass craft comes from Bihar's Mithila region. Women weave golden sikki grass into intricate animal figurines, boxes, baskets, and decorative items. The bright golden color is natural and needs no dye. GI tagged.
Is this eco-friendly?
Women collect sikki grass from local fields, dry it until golden, split it into fine strands, and coil-stitch it around a core of moonj grass. Figurines and containers are built up layer by layer. Colored thread adds pattern details.
Will it hold up to daily use?
Natural fibre products are surprisingly sturdy for regular household use. Avoid heavy loads and prolonged moisture. With basic care, they last for years and develop a nice patina.
How do I clean Sikki Grass products?
Wipe with a dry cloth. For stubborn dust, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Never soak in water. prolonged moisture weakens natural fibres and can cause mold.
Will the color or texture change over time?
Natural fibres deepen in tone with age. Some lighten with sun exposure. This aging is normal and gives the product character. Store away from direct sun to slow the process.
