Tajkira Begum is a prominent Kantha artist from the Nanoor district of the Birbhum district of West Bengal. She introduced her craft in general to children of Muslim families in Nanoor. She first worked in someone else's business in Santiniketan. She says: “I always wanted to do my own thing while working for other people. I have always thought about passing it on to multiple women who can advance their knowledge and support their families.” Because of her zeal, she started a business with 400 women. Today, she continues to run her business with the active support of her husband and supports needy women in the community.
Kantha Embroidery is a centuries-old tradition where people stitch patchwork cloth from rags that was evolved from the thrift of rural women in the Bengali region of the sub-continent
