Description & Material
Hand felted pure wool namda floor mat made from original wool. This mat is handmade using Namda process, a rare and unique craft originating in the Mughal era, wherein splendid floor pieces are made from 100% wool (white or dyed) by practice of felting the wool rather than weaving it. This art is quite popular in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. Namda is made by felting of wool rather than weaving it. Wool is spread evenly in a thick layer on a grass mat or jute mat and sprinkled generously with soap water. The mat is then rolled tightly and tied up with a rope and compressed by way of rolling to-and-fro on the floor with the help of hands and feet for about an hour which allows fusing together of the fibre technically known as 'fibre to fibre' fusion. The rope is then untied, and the mat unrolled to discover the well-shaped Namda.
Care
Gentle hand wash separately in cold water with mild/liquid detergents, excess colours may bleed when washed for the first time. Avoid soaking for too long.
Colour

For those of you using a 44-inch wide fabric, this guide suggests measurements for a standard L Size. Think of this as your starting point. If you're working with different sizes or fabric widths, just adjust up or down accordingly. Hope this helps!
When it comes to how much fabric you'll need, it really depends on the design. We'd recommend having a chat with your designer or tailor before you order, just to be on the safe side.

How do I know this is genuinely handmade?
We source every product directly from artisan workshops across India. No middlemen, no factories. We work with over 10,000 artisans in 500+ craft clusters.
How will my order be packed?
Every order includes a handwritten note and a small surprise gift from us. Your product is wrapped carefully to reach you safe. We've done this since day one.
What size options are available?
We offer mats in multiple sizes. small accent, medium area, and large room sizes. Exact dimensions in inches or feet are on each product page. Measure your floor space first.
Is this safe on slippery floors?
We recommend using a non-slip pad underneath on smooth or tiled floors. Most handwoven mats grip better on rough surfaces. A simple rubber underlay solves any slipping issue.
Can I wash this at home?
Smaller mats can be hand washed and air dried flat. Larger pieces need professional cleaning. Spot clean stains with a damp cloth and mild soap for regular upkeep.
Will this shed fibres initially?
Some handwoven mats may shed loose fibres during the first few weeks. This is normal and reduces with use. Light vacuuming helps. It does not affect the durability.
Is this suitable for high-traffic areas?
Handwoven mats handle moderate foot traffic. Grass and cotton mats suit bedrooms and living rooms. For high-traffic areas like doorways, choose thicker weaves or layer with a rug pad.
What is Plain/Solid?
Plain/Solid fabrics have a single, uniform color without any print, pattern, or embellishment. The beauty lies in the fabric quality, weave texture, and natural drape. These serve as versatile basics for any wardrobe or home.
How is Plain/Solid made?
Weavers or mills produce fabric in a single dye bath, creating uniform color across the entire surface. For handloom plain fabrics, subtle texture variations from the weaving process add depth even without a pattern.
How can I tell this is genuinely handmade?
Look for minor variations in shape, color, or pattern. Machine-made products look perfectly uniform. Handmade Digital Print pieces carry the maker's touch in every small detail.
Why does each piece look slightly different?
Every piece is made by hand, one at a time. Slight differences in material, pressure, and technique make each one unique. That's what separates handcraft from factory output.
How do I care for Plain/Solid products?
Handle gently. Keep dry and clean. Specific care depends on the material. check the product page. Most pieces stay in excellent condition with regular dusting and gentle handling.
What does Acrylic Woolens feel like?
Acrylic woolens feel soft and warm like wool but lighter. They have a smooth, pill-resistant surface. The synthetic fibre holds bright colours well and dries faster than natural wool.
How do I wash Acrylic Woolens products?
Hand wash in cold water with mild wool detergent. Do not twist or wring. Lay flat on a towel to dry. Dry cleaning is recommended for heavily embroidered acrylic woolens pieces.
Is Acrylic Woolens suitable only for winter?
Primarily, yes. Acrylic Woolens works best in cool and cold weather. Lighter acrylic woolens pieces can work in air-conditioned indoor settings. It's not suitable for peak summer use.
How do I store Acrylic Woolens products in off-season?
Clean before storing. Fold and place in a breathable cotton bag. Add neem leaves or naphthalene to prevent moths. Store in a dry, dark cupboard. Check every few months.
Does Acrylic Woolens pill or shed?
Some pilling is normal with wool and wool-blend fabrics in early use. Gently remove pills with a fabric shaver. After the initial period, the surface stabilizes and pilling reduces.
