What is Bengal Coir Craft?
Bengal Coir Craft uses coconut fibre processed in West Bengal. Artisans twist, spin, and weave coir into doormats, rugs, baskets, and rope products. The natural brown fibre is durable and water-resistant.
Is this eco-friendly?
Artisans extract fibre from coconut husks by soaking and beating them. The fibre is then spun into rope and woven on simple frames. For finer products, the coir is dyed and woven into mats and baskets.
Will it hold up to daily use?
Natural fibre products are surprisingly sturdy for regular household use. Avoid heavy loads and prolonged moisture. With basic care, they last for years and develop a nice patina.
How do I clean Bengal Coir Craft products?
Wipe with a dry cloth. For stubborn dust, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Never soak in water. Prolonged moisture weakens natural fibres and can cause mold.
Will the color or texture change over time?
Natural fibres deepen in tone with age. Some lighten with sun exposure. This aging is normal and gives the product character. Store away from direct sun to slow the process.
