In 1993 KALA RAKSHA was established as a registered society and trust. Comprised of artisans, community members, and experts in the fields of art, design, agriculture, and museums, KALA RAKSHA today collaborates with nearly 1,000 embroiders from 7 ethnic communities. KALA RAKSHA means "preservation of works of art". The foundation aims to preserve the local traditional arts and make them culturally and economically viable. Trust activities are carried out by artisans. Without craftsmen, there can be no traditional art. Wherever possible, positions ranging from office manager to coordinator and tailor are recruited from local residents. The Trust provides the training you need to make this possible. KALA RAKSHA encourages community members to work together towards the goal of self-sufficiency.
