| Material | Handmade tribal dokra rakhi by Miharu. Dokra, also known as Dhokra, is an ancient craft practised by nomadic tribes who have since settled into parts of eastern India. The Dhokra system is one of the oldest forms of metal casting, technically known as "cire perdue" or the lost-wax process. This rakhi can later become a dainty choker, or be worn as a bracelet, allowing it to live on as an accessory well after the festival. Designed to be reused, each piece reduces waste and gives the rakhi a life beyond the occasion. Made of brass, these are 100% ecologically friendly handicraft products. Inconsistencies in finish and texture are an integral part of the handmade process. This rakhi comes with banaras handpainted wooden dolls, which can be used as decorative accents, gifts, or play items for children. By Purchasing Rakhi from iTokri you have proudly associated yourself with our artisan support initiative which brings happiness to more than 10000 families across India. Thanks so much! |

For those of you using a 44-inch wide fabric, this guide suggests measurements for a standard L Size. Think of this as your starting point. If you're working with different sizes or fabric widths, just adjust up or down accordingly. Hope this helps!
When it comes to how much fabric you'll need, it really depends on the design. We'd recommend having a chat with your designer or tailor before you order, just to be on the safe side.

Dokra is a lost-wax metal casting technique from Chhattisgarh, Bengal, and Odisha. Artisans create hollow metal figurines, jewelry, and vessels using beeswax molds and bell metal. The craft is over 4,000 years old.
The artisan shapes a clay core, wraps it with beeswax threads to form the design, then coats it with clay. The mold is fired. wax melts out, metal is poured into the cavity. When cooled, the outer clay is broken to reveal the casting.
Brass and copper naturally develop a patina over time. This is normal and considered desirable by many. Clean with lemon and salt paste to restore original shine if preferred.
