Fine quality original pink kashmiri pashmina handspun handwoven pure woolen shawl. Azo-free dye has been used to make this shawl.
Pashmina comes from the Persian word pashmineh, which means made from Pashm or wool in Persian. The wool for Pashmina weaving comes from a distinct breed of goats which are found at an altitude of above 14000 feet in the plateau of Changthan in Ladkah. The goats get their name from the region and are locally known as Changthangi and the wool produced by these goats is called Pashmina. Pashmina fibres are fine and thin, 12-15 microns, ideal for making light weight apparel like fine scarves and shawls. Typically, a goat produces 250- 300 grams of Pashmina per season, comprising 60 per cent fibre and 40 per cent hair. This wool is collected every spring and cleaned before the goat grows a new coat each winter. Pashmina yarn is very fragile and that is why pure Pashmina can only be woven with delicate hands on handloom. Then weaving is done with a shuttle, carrying the soft Pashmina yarn through the fine yet strong warp. The weaving process is an art that is passed down over generations. It takes about a week to weave a single Pashmina shawl.
Note : This piece carries tiny knots, thread pulls, or uneven lines not flaws, but fingerprints. Every irregularity is a whisper from the hands that made it. How long does it take to weave a Baragaon product?
Weavers work on basic pit looms, creating plain and twill weave cotton fabrics. The focus is on clean construction rather than elaborate patterns. The fabric is sturdy and suited for everyday garments and home textiles.
How can I tell if this is handloom and not powerloom?
Handloom fabric has a slightly uneven texture when you run your fingers along it. The selvedge edges look different from machine-woven ones. The weave carries a softness that powerlooms cannot replicate.
Why are there slight irregularities in the weave?
A human hand operates the loom. Thread tension, shuttle speed, and pedal pressure vary naturally. These small irregularities are proof of handloom origin. not defects.
How do I care for Baragaon handloom products?
Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent for the first few washes. Avoid wringing. gently squeeze and dry flat in shade. The fabric softens beautifully with each wash.
What does Woolens feel like?
Woolens feel warm, springy, and insulating. Natural wool has a slight crimp you can feel . tiny waves in each fibre that trap air. Handwoven woolens have extra body and texture.
How do I wash Woolens products?
Hand wash in cold water with mild wool detergent. Do not twist or wring. Lay flat on a towel to dry. Dry cleaning is recommended for heavily embroidered woolens pieces.
Is Woolens suitable only for winter?
Primarily, yes. Woolens works best in cool and cold weather. Lighter woolens pieces can work in air-conditioned indoor settings. It's not suitable for peak summer use.
How do I store Woolens products in off-season?
Clean before storing. Fold and place in a breathable cotton bag. Add neem leaves or naphthalene to prevent moths. Store in a dry, dark cupboard. Check every few months.
Does Woolens pill or shed?
Some pilling is normal with wool and wool-blend fabrics in early use. Gently remove pills with a fabric shaver. After the initial period, the surface stabilizes and pilling reduces.
