Material
Traditional bhil pithora folk artwork on thick art paper with permanent ink & acrylic colours. This exquisite bhil art comes from the family of Geeta Bariya. Geeta is the daughter in law of Bhuribai famous Bhil artist. She learnt painting after she got married. She has participated in various workshops. The Bhils are the second largest tribe in India who reside in western and central India, in states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. The history of Bhil art is as old as the Bhils themselves. The art is simple images of everyday life of this tribe, the Bhils live close to nature and lead a largely agricultural life. Their paintings reflect the changing seasons, the natural phenomena that guide their harvest, and the gods that protect them. Their houses have beautiful frescos of images from myth and folklore on the walls and ceilings. Dots are the identity of Bhil art paintings. Dots of different colours on plain backgrounds are used to depict stories, memories and prayers.
